happy-diver,

I like the idea of leading with an elbow instead of a hand, and I will try it. Thanks.

I am careful about using my over-the-head method only when I have good stable footing and there's no opportunity to drop my gear on another diver if I lose my balance.

I have repeatedly dislocated both shoulders due to an old military service injury. A few times i have had to relocate one of my shoulders during a dive.

I find using an adjustable harness works well for me to prevent dislocating a shoulder while donning and doffing my backplates and wings. I open it up all the way before gettin in and out. It’s also possible to make it drum tight. So, it really doesn’t matter which arm you do first. Although when diving a long hose an necklace I usually do the right side first.

Of course it’s not DIR to not use a single piece of webbing or making it drum tight.
