We dove with BA back in March, and had a great time. From watching sunsets in the restaurant, to the balcony facing the sea or the great dive operation. We had Chris as our DM one day, too, and he was great. If you run into him and/or his wife in the restaurant, buy them a beer and you'll have a great time. Chris has great hockey jokes.

Gordon,
Hope to be in 101 or 104 Oct 28.:)
Frank
I could hope for that as well, but I'm afraid I'd be disappointed. ;^)

Have a great time and tell all the folks there hi for me.

Ron,

What a great review; I feel as though I was there with you!

Seriously, Julie and I very much enjoyed meeting you and Cathy. I concur with pretty much everything you mentioned and it bears repeating: The staff at BA is top notch from start to finish. Just the experience of staying and eating there was worth the trip. (Good thing too, considering I had 2 non-divers with me.) The meals are actually large enough for two to split. We didn't do that too often, but we did take doggie bags back to the room.

A few items to add to your excellent report: The rooms also have small refrigerators. There's a grocery store in easy walking distance, so one can bring back bread, cheese, cookies, etc. for midnight snacks. The margaritas in the restaurant are very good, but on diving days treat yourself to a limonada, it’s not one of the drinks included with the divers lunch, but worth the extra pittance and the best I've ever had. You can get a lock and chain for your dive gear storage bin, but you have to ask at the dive shop.

A side trip worth taking if you have a car (it's worth renting one for a day to do this) is to the wild side of the island to view the release of the sea turtles. The area is restricted, so you have to be escorted by one of the project leaders. Talk to Andrea in reception about the details, it cost nothing but you'll want to leave a contribution to the project. Andrea can also put you in touch with a reasonable car rental agency.

Again, Ron, thank you for the excellent report and thank you and Cathy for your company. After the VBO fiasco we told you about, I thought vacationing in Cozumel was not going to happen again anytime soon. Thanks to the wonderful stay we had at BA (and in part, meeting you and Cathy) I think a return trip is more than probable..............Mission Accomplished.

So did you guys go out for a turtle release night? That sounds fabulous. Wish we would have (we watched them lay their eggs once about 20 years ago off of Tulum, and it was amazing). We enjoyed meeting you and Julie too.

Adding to the additions, one of the things I really appreciate about the Blue Angel is the readily available chilled water--a tank on every floor. Now I'm sorry I didn't try the limonada.

Hello Ann,

It was a pleasure meeting you too.

Yes, the turtle release was nothing short of magic. Andrea put us in touch with a rental agency who delivered a rag top Beetle and we all piled in. The zoologist, Ricardo, rode with us and got us past the road blocks. Ricardo is a very interesting and knowledgeable young man and is passionate about this project as were the other project leaders.

...the limonada. Well, I guess you'll just have to make a return visit before they run out.

Edit: Now that I think about it, perhaps what I believed to be road blocks could very well be inspection points. Perhaps someone can clarify that for us.

Edit #2: The rooms also have digital safes.

I never thought my wife would enjoy the turtle release, but she really got into it and now it is a must do event for us.
Andrea is a doll, so helpful always. I screwed up the digital safe like 3 times and she went upstairs each time and fixed it for me.
What exactly is this limonada you speak of? Is it an alcohol drink or some sort of lemonaide?
It's the little things sometimes, like the maid going the extra distance (took our laundry home and did it for us), how great is that.
Or the dive shop guys showing me how to repair a leaky SPG swivel.

....snip...What exactly is this limonada you speak of? ..

When made correctly, a gift from the gods.

Lemonade, but in most places in Cozumel made with limes. But it's probably not that simple, they do it better at BA than anywhere else including my home made attempts. I wonder if Eva will hire me so I can steal the secret.

Blue Steal, why would you have any laundry? Just dive in your clothes and put them on the porch to dry. <--the wife.

Edit: One more thing I remembered. The coffee in the lounge is very good, so get down there early. The coffee in the restaurant is ok, but trust me on this one.

Yeah, for me my bathing suit and maybe a couple of t-shirts and one set of better stuff for dinners out, but for the wife tons of clothes (dinners out and shopping & ??).
I like to bring small gifts (chocolates) for the front desk folks, maid, heck even the cook "Marta". This year, I'm thinking of some T-shirts from California for the dive shop guys.
