Body achy and worn out after 1st time dive?

hi guys,

I did my very first pool dive on Saturday and did a training dive in the springs on Sunday I felt fine all day today but this afternoon my body started feeling achy and worn down. I am thinking it's just beacause my body is just tired and I used a bunch of muscles I have never used before. Since my certification dive is in the ocean this weekend I want to do my best to avoid getting sick.

What are your best don't get sick before your big dad remedies? Thanks!
 
you're probably just tired, totally normal. get a good amount of rest, make sure you are fully hydrated starting about 2 days before, and I usually take some NSAID's, especially for your first ocean dive. You are carrying a lot of weight that you aren't used to carrying, going up and down ladders to get in and out of the dive site with said weight, using muscles in your legs that you normally don't use, and then likely the slight barotrauma in your eustachian tubes from not equalizing early or often enough. Helps to prevent the inevitable inflammation you're going to see. The biggest one really is making sure you are properly hydrated *read urine is clear and copious*

New divers are always tired and hungry. Eat and rest well before diving. Have a protein snack and fruit after diving. Be sure that you drink plenty of fluids. Responsible hydration is important. It gets easier the more you get used to it.

Just to add to what others have said. Your first open water dives are fairly stressful events as those are the first time you've breathed underwater. It does take its toll and you have a fair number of tasks to go through when you perform the required skills. You will become more comfortable underwater as you spend more time there. Hopefully you enjoyed yourself to some degree and countless amazing experiences await you under the surface. It gets a lot more fun when you get to dive for fun. I am a n00bi, too! Just certified the weekend before last. Drink lots of water, hydration is important. My husband brought along a big bowl of melon for me after my first shore dive, it was very much appreciated. On the boat dives pineapple was offered and was also very thirst quenching and a good boost of sugar. I also took a dose of something similar to Airborne, the CVS variety to give me an extra boost, just in case.

Did find I slept better than I had in years after the dives, no real body aches, but still having trouble with my ear. Will be seeing a specialist before going into the water again. Please remember to equalize early and often.

Last year when I passed my OW, I was asleep by 8pm each night (as opposed to normal of 11-12pm). I was tired and aching each day (I did a 4 day intensive 1-1 with the instructor). I think it was partly the stress of learning a bunch of new skills, partly the using of muscles in ways they are not used to and possibly some stress at doing an ongoing exam (I felt that for 4 days every move I made in the water was being watched).

Every dive I have made since, I have felt better, more relaxed and my air consumption has gotten way better.
