The skill is more about replacing the mask or swimming sans mask than it is about the speed of how the mask is removed. If you want students to be comfortable, you give them techniques to make themselves more comfortable, rather than forcing them to be uncomfortable. Catastrophic mask failures don't actually happen all that often.
