There's a silver lining to being in my shoes....I'm still po' regardless of how the stock market goes. Diving and then liveaboard diving has been a very slippery slope.

For those that are getting a credit from Damai, how much of your original cost are you getting credit for? 50%? 60%? More? Less?

Folks that I have talked to in the industry don't expect that show to happen.

My dive club in Portland, OR chartered the entire Nautilus Explorer for the Socorro's next month. We made this booking a couple years ago. We have 100% credit toward a future charter. Since we plan trips so far out, we are looking to rebook the Socorro trip for April 2023. 2021 and 2022, we already have trips planned throughout the year.

Personally, I have had 2 Alaska Airlines flights that I had to cancel due to all of this and in both cases the cost of the airfare was credited back to my credit card and cancelation fees waived.

Hi! Did you get a 100% credit towards a future charter in the form of 2 vouchers that cannot be used on the same sailing but are transferable? (That is what others are reporting and I want to make sure I report this accurately, if it is different.)

For your Alaska flights, did they cancel on you and then give you a refund or did you cancel on them and they still offered you a refund instead of a voucher? (The latter has been common with other carriers.) Thanks for clarifying. I want to make sure I log this correctly. :)

I am not sure about the first question. Our group organizer has been handling everything. Group charter of 25 people (all from our club) and I was just told that we will be picking new dates in April 2023 and all monies paid are transferring over to the new charter. probably handled much differently than an individual or a couple. As for Alaska, I canceled due to the uncertainty of the virus and travel bans and they refunded no questions asked and no cancel fees, no questions asked. I did everything online. My timing was possibly a factor. When I booked and when I canceled in the midst of all of this.

If you go to the Alaska homepage, you will see this right at the top of th epage:

Interesting! Sounds like you have a better deal than @soonerwink . His group only gets 50% credit to future trip. The other 50% credit has to be used on other future trip or sells it to another group / individual. What so special about your group?

Maybe it is going to work out, I haven't been able to get in touch with dive shop, "closed, not essential business".This sounds like maybe Nautilus listened to us.

We were supposed to have gone to Indonesia (East Lombok) last week. Flight with Swiss air to Singapore then on with Singapore Airlines. Coming from France we were not allowed to enter or transit through Singapore anymore.
Swiss does not give refund only change ticket to an open ticket with departure until next year April.
Singapore Airlines also no refund, but there I got my money back via Paypal. Hotels all refunded. The dive resort was told last week that they had to shut down because of the virus.

Here it was a case that we prepaid but instead of a refund they are keeping the money to be used for our next possible stay. So not lost.

Airline policies really vary. Some refund, (Air Asia, Turkish Airlines), other only postpone the booking.

I think I can answer my own question as I have spoken with someone who had a trip scheduled on the Damai and have been dealing with them. I have been told the owner wants to keep 40% of the charter price and give a 60% credit towards a future trip. I can understand keeping some amount but keeping 40% seems excessive to me.
