Bummer...With 5' - 10' of new snow hitting the sierra this week, I've already made the decision to go skiing...
Not a bad choice as conditions there should be epic.

Having grown up in Chicago and experienced temperatures of minus 81° F with the wind chill, I can't understand why anyone would choose to play in water when it is in its solid form.

Ah, yes, we have some rumors to dispel! This is not Chicago. This is the California dream!

It was indeed a fine weekend of scenery, lack of lines, quite, solitude, fantastic decision making and patrol obedience!

I'm still coming for you Catalina...

Just not this weekend I hope. Gale warnings, 13-16ft seas.

Thanks for the warning. Definitely Squaw bound again. Considering getting on the Vision Feb5th, though. Surprised there isn't more channel islands chatter on this board...

Just FYI- the water temps have dropped to normal levels- 55-56F last weekend

Hi,
The guide at the beginning of this thread has been very, very helpful in figuring out how best to do some diving while in LA for a few days. The Casino Point park seems like a perfect intro for a couple of divers with only tropical and a bit of quarry experience.

However, if we are keenly interested in wildlife are there certain sites, either by boat or by shore, that hold better odds? In particular, I'm thinking about sea lions, leopard sharks, and other fauna that seem to be signature residents of the kelp forests (from what I've read). I know nothing's a sure thing, but looking for any recommendations. We dig fish of all kinds, and I'm also interested in spotting nudibranchs, but sharks and mammals would be at the top of my list.

Also, I'd like to report the following dead links from the guide above:

I'll be there during the Labor Day weekend. How's the diving condition then be?

Last condition report was in February. It's been over a years since I dove California. Looking to drive over next weekend. Anyone know the current water conditions? Or point me to a link that has the current conditions?
