How much is a patch and a card worth?

Heck, for not much more than a new regulator, you could travel half way around the world for a diving vacation.... You might focus your dives on a few new specialties (MORE CARDS)....

And you come back a DIVEMASTER, knowing more about sex, ethics, medicine, life, and culture, than any other scubaboard members!!!!

How many girls would not want to sleep with a DIVEMASTER???

I even heard, DIVEMASTER training will increase phallic size, better than VIAGRA!

Just for that, I myself will sign up for divemaster training :rofl3:

I might have some laying around the garage someplace. If I can find them, I'll send you one for free if you want.:11:

so sorry I wasn't clearer. yeah i'll need 5 specialties...but is it worth my money to take up these 5 specialties, or shall i just be happy with my rescue, and just dive :)
looking at the list of specialties, nothing really screams out at me. i'll do enriched air for sure. the rest...kinda iffy. I mean...peak buoyancy? just jump in and dive, and the buoyancy will come in my humble opinion. and wreck diving? I did that for AOW and we just counted kick cycles, and estimated the size of the wreck, and got oriented with it's topography (to be able to find it again.) and if this is the sort of thing i'd be doing, I rather not spend over a hundred bucks to do this.

Sorry for the cynicism but if I invest money, I wanna learn something practical and IMPROVE myself. thanks for all the replies so far folks, appreciate it.

On a more serious note, I think you can fulfill your 5 specialties within the time allotted for your DM course. Why don't you call and find out. Nitrox can be done at home. Your deep dive and navigation dive with AOW counts toward these specialties. Rescue diver can probably be done in 2 or 3 days.... I don't think you need it under your belt to do DM training. From what I understand, thats alot of reading to load up if you allowed only 3 or so weeks to complete it.

Spend the money on a kickass dive trip instead.

Cheers.

Rescue is an invaluable course. Most of the merit badge classes you don't learn a whole lot. (My favorite is "Boat Diver"). If you want to get the next cert, do your Dive Master. That's actually worth something and you definately learn a few things. An added perk is that when casually mentioning this to the DM on board the boat, a lot of them will let you tag along at the back of the group instead of getting teamed up with an insta-buddy.

If you don't want to run through the DM course, considerer buying the Encylopedia of Diving which is one of the big training aids in the PADI DM course. There's a lot of good info there.

Try the NOAA Manual (4th Ed.), or U.S. Navy Manual (free on the web) instead, both have much more inofrmation than the "Encylopedia of Diving."

Kewl. Downloading the Navy manual now. Thanks for the info Thalassamania.

I learned something new today and it's only 10:30. I guess I can go back to bed now.

It's the basis of everything, you can get if for free and IMHO everyone should browse it now and again. Why do you think I have a computer next to the toilet?:D

Master diver rating is just a card for when you get 5 specialties.

YOU NEED Rescue diver to take the PADI DM training...if you want my 10¢ worth of advice...Nitrox, equipment specialist, Navigation, Rescue diver, PPB...and if you want deep diver...but really...

DM Training depending whom your instructor is..can be very rewarding. If your aiming to go instructor some day then go for it.

If you want to just remain a DM and work on charters and assist on courses..or work down south...then all the power to you.

But get inshape for it. Physically and mentally...

Oh and the girls go wild for a DM's .....no money in it...but some perks are well worth it..

Safe dives

you also NEED Rescue to get you MSD. You can get DM with no specialties but you have to learn more fine tuning to get MSD. Get your training if you want it. there is nothing you can't experience or learn on a Training dive that you can learn diving with an Insta buddy.
