If anyone knows of a hostel or campground please let me know. Not finding much for low budget lodging in Curacao. Is the shore diving good or do I need to do boat dives? Thanks for any info...

Cheap Curacao Hostels - Search all Hostels in Curacao at Hostels.com

I assume since you're looking at hostels that renting a car is not an option?

What I know about 3/4 listings:

Landhuis Daniel is on a main road west of town mid-island. It's not near much of anything so w/o a car access to most things would be difficult. Relaxed Guided Dives is a little closer to town along the same road.

The 2gether B&B might be your best option. It's in a quieter neighborhood south of the airport. Blue Bay wall nearby is a shore dive and there's a shop there - http://www.diveversity.com/ Boca Sami also has a dive - Shore Diving Site Page for: Boca Sami Kokomo Beach - also mentioned - is another name for the Varsenbaai dive site afaik. Shore Diving Site Page for: Vaersen Bay Trunk Divers is on-site for rentals.

The road thru Julianadorp to the hostel will go right by Centrum Market - one of the larger markets in that area. About a mile to the south instead is the resort/convention area of Piscadera Bay. Both the Marriott and Hilton have dives offshore, on-site operators, casinos, etc. Pirate Bay is a beach bar next door also - they have music some nights.

The last one - Gomes Apt. - I've been to the McDonalds they mention - it's not near the water. That bay on the map to the west is where the container port and refinery are - follow it south and that's downtown. Straight south of it is the Pierbaai area - it's a shore dive plus the Dive Bus is there. East of that is the main Ocean Encounters shop at Bapor Kipra (the Seaquarium) for boat dives. We did one all week plus 20 shore dives. Don't feel like we missed much - except maybe Watamula out west.

hth,

The shore diving is wonderful. Boats are handy for dive sites that have a difficult or rough access.
There are a couple of affordable spots up by Westpunt, but not as reasonable as what you seem to be seeking with a hostel.
Regarding Landhuis Daniel - I agree with Steve it is just outside of Terra Cora and not close to any diving. That said the food they serve is first rate a little $$ but for an evening out not much different than a nice restaurant at home.

Perhaps the folks who operate "The Dive Bus" might have some recommendations, or email Discover Diving at Play Langun, they may be able to recommend affordable accomodatiions close to them. The shore diving there is very good too.
