I am going to be in the Daytona Beach area for a few days late in August, and I may have a free day. Is there any readily accessible diving near there?

There is diving right off the coast of Daytona. The reef is a ways off shore. All my friends use http://www.seadogdiver.com/

Also if you want to ty the fresh water thing, Blue Springs State Park is located in Orange City, FL and is less than an hour fro Daytona, but you need a buddy for there.

Check out Sea Dogs Dive Center in New Smyrna Beach. Call 386-424-1644. No other shops in the area have a boat except for them. Other shops will book dives theu them, but it's best to call them direct. Here's a pic of the boat.
