Newbie-in-fl's Nassau Dive Report.
Dive report from non diving vacation to Nassau.
I was traveling with a nondiver and was recovering
from bronchitis so I only did one dive on this trip.

Dive 1 10/17
Shark Arena: Max Depth 39' Dive time 40 minutes Water temp 82

I could not pass up the opportunity to experience the
shark feeding dive. Definitely an exciting experience, and
surprisingly I was scared for only a few seconds. Saw about 20-25
Caribbean Reef Sharks and one large nurse shark. After DM fed
the sharks, they slowly dispersed and we searched for sharks teeth
on the floor. I would have preferred to explore instead.
The dive was great with viz 50-80ft. Seas were flat to 1’. The dive op was
Stuart Cove and although it is a big operation, everything is well
organized. We had 8 divers for the shark dives. I dove with Nitrox
and it was only $10 extra (other ops were quoting $12-14). My only
frustration is that SC limits your dive time regardless if you have a computer
and/or use Nitrox.

Great dive!

Oh, my thanks so much for that report. I will be traveling there on Nov. 27th. and will be diving with SC for 1 week...i can't not wait. did you find any teeth??? and what a great suvenior that is. overall how is the Island from the hurricane damage? did they have alot of damage there? Oh, i so can't wait to go. thanks again and sorry that you were sick. Oh, what do you mean that SC limits your dive time even with a computer??

Teeth: No, didn't find any but I really didn't look. I was too busy perusing
the edge of the wall while the others were looking for teeth.

Hurricane damage: None to report of. Apparantently, Freeport and Abacos
had a lot of damage and some areas there are still shut down, but
I did not notice ANY in Nassau.

Dive Time: SC will say something like "okay this is a dive to 70ft. max for
a maximum time of 30minutes".....I still had over 1900psi at end of my dive
and could have stayed down much longer but SC will not let you even if you
have the air and have the time (computer or table).

Hope that helps. Happy Diving.

Thanks for that. Oh, many my hubby is going to be really upset when they do that..if he has has still alot of air..and they do that he's going to be mad. but, oh well he will get over it. thanks again for the info.

I'll be ther 2 weeks before (November 10th-20th) Scuba65. Thank you for the report on SC, I am diving with them. I booked the shark dives as well, and I'm glad to hear that they are exciting.

I was there in late September but didn't do any diving because the hurricane was blowing through. We got to snorkle a little the last day of our stay. Viz was about 6 inches to a few feet near the beach. None of the operators had their boats in the water so we couldn't dive. We did, however, get out to Stuart's operation to pick up a few T-shirts. I want to go back!

We rented a scooter and toured the island. That was quite a bit of fun. If you rent one make sure you get a good one. Don't be afraid to walk away and seek one that works properly.

Where did you stay in Nassau?
