A 30-year-old diver died on Saturday morning after being trapped in the cabin of a sunken fishing boat about 40 meters deep in the Reina Sofía dock in the port of La Luz. The Group of Underwater Activities Specialists (GEAS) of the Civil Guard tried to locate and recover the body for hours without success. Work will resume this Sunday.
The events occurred around eleven o'clock in the morning when the victim was participating in an excursion that plunged into the back of the aforementioned dam, at the height of the area known as los arenales. The intention was to see the ship called 'El Narcótico', whose real name is Soo Yang, which sank on December 15, 1990 in the outer sub-dam of the León y Castillo dock. This wreck is next to two others, the Ifafa and the Clavado.
It was her colleagues who gave the alert a few minutes after eleven in the morning. The Salvamar Nunki Maritime Rescue boat, as well as the GEAS team of the Armed Institute, immediately began work to try to rescue the diver.
The divers were submerged for several hours with the support of the aforementioned boat. However, with dusk, the operation was suspended due to the impossibility of accessing the cabin where the young woman is. According to sources close to the device, the search will resume first thing in the morning.
This area is highly appreciated by divers attracted by this set of ship wrecks and especially by this 65-meter-long fishing boat, built in 1974 in the Huelva shipyards, according to the website
