Hi, I gotta job in Isle Of Palms for 2 weeks (paid for). I will be working on a beach house there - like to do a dive or two but was wondering if there was any shops in the area. I would to know if there is any places to go while I am there, never been there. Just wanted to see if I should pack all my gear and take it with me. If the diving is too far away, I might not have the time. Thanks for any responses.

Hi kbkremer,
I dive with Coastal Scuba and have for about eight years. They are located in North Myrtle Beach, a bit of a hike from Isle of Palms.
For more local operations look up Lee Taylor on this Board. He is in the Charleston area and always has some good info on the area diving scene, conditions, and usually some info on charters and how to get in touch with them.

The diving is mostly wrecks, very warm water, tropicals, sharks, turtles, what more could you want? :D

Hope this helps,

Hank

type scuba diving charleston sc in goolge and yuo'll get about 8 charters to return. appears $150 for 2 dives on air is the going rate in Charleston, SC. There are several wrecks and reefs to dive according to the local charters' websites. Looks like good diving. Have fun diving. Don't forget about the local history of Charleston.

Yes - though most of it is by boat, and not a shore dive

Just wanted to see if I should pack all my gear and take it with me. If the diving is too far away, I might not have the time.

Bring the gear - or at a minimum mask and reg (and rent the rest). If you have a day off you will have plenty of time. If you are doing it after work, ask the shops about night dives to see if they fit your plans.

Have fun - lots of stuff to do while you are in the area.

If you are going to be in the IoP area I recommend diving with Charleston Scuba. They dive Every Week Thur-Sun and it is usually around $150/2 dives. Charters meet at the shop at 7am, leave the dock by 8:30am and get back to the dock between 3:30-5:30pm depending on the sites they visited that day. I would recommend trying to go on the weekend and to sign up early to guarantee a spot. The site is http://www.charlestonscuba.com

Isn't there a diveop in Mt. Pleasant?

You might also want to try Blackwater Meg Teeth diving in the Cooper River - Simply the Best In Blackwater Diving

+1 for Charleston Scuba...

Charleston Aquarium was pretty good also.

moved to Deep Dixie forum...

Wow! $150 is pretty steep for a two tanker? I just paid $70 for a two tank dive in Key Largo and I think about the same in Jupiter. Why is SC so much more? Offshore mileage?
Jersey isn't that much either......

I have tons a family in Charleston area and would love to do some diving down there.

If you're interested in some blackwater diving for megladon shark teeth and fossils give me a shout. I'm always up for a trip down the Cooper river. Charters there run 80-85 a day.

Hey thanks guys for all your info!! I fly out July 5, tomorrow, I will get in touch with someone somewhere, Again thanks!!

All of the sites in Charleston are are 12+ miles off shore and generally take at least 1.5 hours to get to, that is the reason for the increased prices versus Florida where the sites are 10 mins away.

As for there being a Dive Shop in Mount Pleasant, There is one called Low Country Scuba. I cant find there site, but you can google them. I have never dove with them, and the two times that I tried they were unable to fill a boat to run a charter. They primarily cater to Spear Fishers and generally that is all that is on their boats when they do manage to go out.
