What in the name of wide world of sports has getting a BP/W got to do with the question post? Am I missing something from the OP?
Just an opinion, but I believe they were dealing with the issue of constriction.
A standard stab-jacket, combined with a dry suit will typically result in chest compression, anxiety and problems finding the inflator, fumbling etc.
A bad combination, especially for O/W dives.
The backplate/wing ( for those who are new) combo is less contrictive,
moving the bladder behind the diver, presenting a more stream line profile.
While it is well meant, it is a bad idea.
I would never recommend a BP/wing to newbies.
Fully inflated they float you horizontal face down,
not a good place to be in already stressful situation.
