Been fully bearded for years, and have been diving with and without and never noticed a difference. I do clear my mask regularly, although it's pretty much automatic, I just do it without thinking about it.
 
I was told by one of my instructors that no matter what you use....some days it will leak and some days it won't. I have tried using chap stick and vasaline and his comments were correct. I bought a better mask and the problem got better but did not go away.
Last year on vacation a DM told me to try shaving a 1 mm or so strip just below my nose. This seems to have done the trick.

As far as DC4BS's comment about high O2 mixes.....I don't think you will be compressing this gas in your mask and should not experience this particular problem.
