Many of my favorite solo dives have a significant surface swim to and from the descent/ascent. A slower surface swim and more complaining would be the only differences with a buddy. :)

:rofl3: I can relate!

My usual dive partner is my wife, but my three kids also dive with us sometimes.... and there was one dive I took them all on which involved a very long surface swim; the youngest asked "Are we there yet"? several times during the swim (just like a kid on a long car trip).

Best wishes.

Swim down, swim around, Swim up! quote from a mossback.:D

I resurface adjust and then descend most of the time

Nope, I don't resurface once I hit the water when solo-ing. Once I'm in, I descend and don't come up until my dive is over.

I do most of my diving off the boats in SoCal. The usual instructions from the DM on board is to head down the stern line. Since my navation is not the best, I follow that direction then take off at the bottom of the stern line.

And yes - once I hit the water, I surface, give the "OK" sign to the boat and swim on the surface to the stern line. That's weather I am solo or with a buddy.

For beach dives I just get in and dive. If I'm doing a giant stride or back roll off a boat or dock, I'll do it with enough air in my BC to pop back up and make sure everything is still in place, than dive.

I don't re-surface with a buddy. We wade in, do our checks and... dive, dive, dive!

Whether I dive from a boat or enter via the stairs at Casino Point Dive Park, I always take a little time (a few nanoseconds) at the surface before descending... mainly because I have to deflate my bladder (the one on my harness, not the other one).
