Have a friend there now, got a message saying that they are publicly allowing fishing in the marine park?

Is there any truth to this?

Does your friend often lie to you? Or do you doubt that your friend knows what he's talking about? Surely more was said than that. What's his source? On what basis does he say this?

Told by locals

Federal law prohibits fishing the marine park, but enforcement is probably lacking to the extent that some do it.

Never been to ‘Coz, but if you can fish in a park what’s even the point of it being a park?!

Being Canadian, you probably don't know much about Mexican politics. I'd say it's not very admirable, but then I go there as a guest so I generally don't say much.

There is still no fishing allowed in the park. Nonetheless, some fish boats will be in park area especially when no dive boats around. In the southern reefs near lighthouse, lots of fishing boats are in park boundary. Very little enforcement.

As long as folks keep buying grouper filet at the restaurants, fishermen will keep poaching the marine park.

Told by locals

"Told" by what locals and how many? Divemasters? Grocery clerks? One local? Two locals? Ten locals?

So he didn't actually observe any fishing in the marine park.

Sorry, this is how rumors get started. Now, without any substance or verification, some people will be skimming Scubaboard threads and six months from now be telling people that they "remember" seeing "some discussion" about fishing in the marine park.
