I have a Pioneer on a Hammerhead plate. No problems so far, great setup. Like the others have said, I don't dive wrecks so snags are not as big of an issue. Sure, it could happen, but I'm not worried about it right now. If I rip it, I will replace it with an eclipse, but right now it's working great.

I have seen prices (Eclipse, new) from $475.00 - $625.00 ($625 = LDS, won't budge).
Used have offers from 300 - 400 for Pioneer setups.

That is a major price difference..

If I "piece" together a system, it runs ~$450.00.. Just about what the DSS system goes for..

The fact that the instructor will loan a setup for her to begin the class has me leaning towards the LDS..

Eclipse. There is no question about the durability compared to Pioneer.
