OD-

You just did!!

spent too much on some
and not enough for others

Spent about $800.00 for full set of gear 22 years ago last weekend.(yep, got my c card the 25 th of May 1981)

With in the last 2 months I have purchased a brand new Whites Catalyist drysuit and two more Oceanic regs.

In between, LOTS ! Dive education alone has run me over $10,000.

I don't want to do an inventory on gear as it is too depressing.

Well.... Lets see......
OW classes for me and my wife $ 500.00
Equipment for me and my wife $ 2800.00
OW weekend for me and my wife $ 225.00
First dive vacation (Cabo 5 nights) $ 1800.00
Second dive vacation (Florida 5 ") $ 1650.00

FOR EVERYTHING ELSE THERES MASTERCARD

I've been diving for a little over ten years.

I convinced my wife I needed to take my DM class this year which ment I needed to update my kit. So I'm pushing the 2K mark and still not finished.

The amount I spent back in 1967. Since there were no BCs or octopi or SPGs those weren't on the list but I did buy a wet suit, mask and fins (Voit A66) a set of double 72's and a set of double 38's, both with reserve valves, and a USD (aqua-lung)Royal Aqua Master reg (yes it had two hoses) and all this was under $500. The reg still works and I qould guess its value now is more than that first year's investment.

Well the emotional break-down of the costs is much like the assessment I do during ski season so I am used to it.

the course was $250 not including the basic equipment:
snorkel ($28),
fins ($55),
mask ($60),
hood , gloves, booties, (about $100), (necessity because of cold water conditions),
wetsuit rental ($15),
compass ($48),
hotel to stay for ow certification ($160),
bought a bc for $195 (on sale)
and I have a shortie but that is no good up here in New England, a dive flag (we are chipping in on)

and I am not even certified yet! I get certified this weekend!

Why oh why do my interests lie in equipment laden hobbies!

So for the newbies like me, plan on dishing out some duckets!
