Well, just to bring all of you up to date, I survived my open water in Lake Ouachita and I'm now a new NAUI diver!!!!!! :jump: The water was cold even with lots of wet suit on, but even at 65 degrees it felt warm compared to the air! (The thermocline was very, very cold though!) The lake was fairly clear (about 12-15' visibility) for a lake and the fish were plentiful! I had my first experience with difficulty clearing one ear and seeing a sunken boat (with a halloween skeleton driving it, no doubt!) and toilet, and got to go down to 42 feet.

Now, time for some warm Caribbean waters........

Anyone have any experience with the springs in Florida?? My instructor mentioned today that he is going there in mid-December and said that our class is invited. I thought it might be a relatively cheap "first dive trip" for me.

P.S. Red Lobster sounds good to me, guys!!!! There's no ice here now!!!

congrats RooLuvsToDive, btw 65 degrees is warm for us Northerners:wink:

Congratulations on your certification.

My buddy and I just got ours yesterday and we can't wait to go again.

the newly certified divers. Welcome to the underwater world. I've not dove any of the springs in Florida but have heard that the water is pretty typically 72*F.

RooLuvsToDive--keep diving locally and that 65 degree water won't seem so cold. Local diving is also a good(and fairly inexpensive) way for us landlocked folks to keep our skills up so the trips that cost quite a bit provide maximum fun instead of expensive floundering around.

I certainly appreciate all the encouragement and nice replies on here! Makes me wish I had gotten around diving people a long time ago!

Congrats to you, too, Goeduck on your certification! Come on down south and we can find some warmer water close by......you know, Texas IS just North Mexico!

JBD, I do plan on diving more locally but I also plan to frequent the pool at the dive shop in Shreveport, just to keep my skills in order between dives. At least their water is a wonderful 88 degrees!!!!

:clapping: Welcome to diving.
I'm jealous. I'm stuck in a place where there is no diving nearby. Over 2 months without a dive and I'm going downhill.;-0
Let me know about the springs in Florida if you go. Should be nice. :lurk:

WooHoo! That's great!

well done!
hmmm, warm water diving? I've heard of it.............
:jester:
