This was our first trip to Rocky Gap. We dove across from the dam past the aviary. Access is on a dirt road, down a hill to a small area by the lake. Today the dirt road was covered with snow and ice. 4-wheel drive was a must. There is not a lot to see, but a great place to practice skills and drills.
From shore it stays shallow for a ways, and there is a lot of grass, but then it starts to drop and the grass stops. The bottom is very silty, so you must be careful finning. We reached a depth of 50', if you head toward the main channel it would get deeper. Water temps were 42 degrees, air temps started at 24, and climbed to 36. A nice place, close to home to get wet!! Be careful on the road down the hill to the lake. It was icy today, and will likely get worse!!
