Weclome to the "Brotherhood".

Yes, now you to can spend endless hours in a pool over the weekend.......:eyebrow:

Hauling tanks and gear to and from the pool.........:(

Cleaning and hanging up the gear back at the dive shop.......:(

Chasing down students in openwater ( why is it the students that fin the worst in the pool are the fastest in openwater?)......:11:

The never-ending counting of students in the open water ( and boy can they hide)....

Smelling like pool water most of the week.......

Never getting paid.........:no

And loving every mintue of it....:D

Goodluck and every every moment

God I love the smell of chlorine in the morning!!!!!!
BTW Welcome to da 'Hood, :rofl3:

Welcome to the fold. We who do so much, for so many, for so little, all wonder------------ why there are nuts in the world like us. I think it's time that we get the agencies to put a new chapter in all their books. Titled: Why you should tip the DM!

Congratulations! It's an arduous journey. Now that you've arrived, um, it's not all that different. Still, working with students is very satisfying. I love the moments when someone just "gets it"

I'm just a week or so away on mine, but with different intentions. I'm looking at being a Tech DM so I'll get to carry doubles and herd divers that actually have some experience. Congrats!
I thought tech divers don't need no stinkin' herding.

Well, I've already seen a tech diver in training forget to turn his necklace reg back on while doing a valve drill. The S drill could have been interesting! Things happen when you get people doing new things in unfamiliar gear.:11:

--tom--:
I've finally got my card! All that's left is insurance. Now all I have left to do is practice everything so that I am marginally capable.

The journey has just begun.

Congrats!! I know how you feel. I'm a brand new instructor and constantly question my abilty to or how to go about producing a safe diver who loves this like I do. I hope this just means I am conscientious. :D

Congrats just dont F--- it up (just kidding) Have fun and enjoy any perks that come your way.

What is this "get no pay" stuff?
I have been diving for 23 years, and I have to say, I tip my DM, boat captain and crew HANDSOMELY....so where is this money going? <100+ daily>

The average DM works with classes only, as opposed to on a boat, especially here in the Midwest. About all a DM gets here is a chance at discounted gear, dive site entry fees paid for, maybe some SCUBA Review pay, maybe some hourly wage working the shop, and tips. While I and the co-instructor I work with explain to our classes that our DM's work for free and if they feel the need to give tips, give to them; many do not. Also, in Mod 3 when we discuss boat diving, we again mention that DM's work for tips so plan on 10% for the DM's of the boat, or class etc. Appreciation in the form of a heart felt handhsake, an Andrew, a dinner after class, an offer to drive to a dive site, etc is a bonus that keeps them/us coming back for more

Congrats on attaining DM. DM's are a necessary part of dive instruction and a necessary part of the dive business; whether in class or at a resort or dive site. I envy you being on the "left coast" best years of my life were there; single and in my 20's :)

Congrats! Welcome to the wacky world of professional diving.
