Mod Posts, and lack thereof

I understand the need for a board such as SB to have a staff of moderators, and am not taking issue with which posts they choose to moderate. (That's another subject! :D)

HOWEVER, I would appreciate it if the Moderators would leave some indication (like a Mod Post) that they have taken action. Something as simple as "Selected posts have been removed" would let readers of the thread know that action has been taken, and it is not a figment of their imagination that a post used to exist.

It seems like this happens often, but when it does not, it causes some consternation.

The people who need to know are almost always told... but we do make mistakes. Modposts are used to calm things down and if there are too many posts to PM the users individually.

That being said, some threads don't need to be calmed down, so a modpost might have a deleterious effect. No need to be a wet blanket if a few PRIVATE messages will do the trick.
