Yep. Got that. I have an idea for the checked issue below. Clumsy point I was making was that it isn’t really a big deal when TSA ask you to show them the plate or any other scuba equipment in hand luggage. I’m sure others have had different experiences. But I seem to get stopped every time I go through security and it’s generally a very short exchange and wouldn’t be a factor in whether I would or wouldn’t carry a plate in hand luggage....there wouldn’t be a situation where I would say ‘ I would carry it hand luggage but I don’t want to go through all the hassle with the TSA guys’.... because I have never found it to be an issue/hassle really and they pretty much always make me show the kit in screening.
Same with check. I always take my checked scuba to the oversized dropoff so they can put it through the X-ray there and then and ask questions ref plates SMB ( always the metal in that sets them off) Also find that line to be much shorter than regular checkin...so I suppose in response, I wouldn’t worry too much about either...
