Democrats aren't anti business. They just don't want business crapping all over the environment. Things like regulating dumping of coal ash or emissions restrictions aren't anti business.

And many Republicans would argue they're not anti-environment. Most people like to view themselves as informed, common sense-driven centrists, and their philosophical opponents may then be seen as misguided extremists, etc...

Put another way, if the EPA doesn't trust Republicans, Republicans aren't going to trust the EPA, and maybe it's time for the cards (data) to be on the table.

Richard.

Republicans cannot be trusted. Especially when it comes to science and environmental concerns.

Republicans cannot be trusted.

And many would say neither can the Democrats. So, since we all have to live in this world together, maybe putting the data out there is a start. If everyone doubles down on the mentality that my side are the good guys, the other side are the bad guys, we're not going to make much progress.

Richard.

You're not going to get anywhere with the 'you guys are bad' approach. Is that not what some fear Republicans are doing; vilifying the EPA as 'bad guys?'

Richard.

Do you honestly believe the Trump admin in particular and Republicans in general have any desire to collaborate on environmental regulations? They want to gut the EPA.

I think we all have a vested interest in living on this Earth, and we all also have other priorities, some of which may be in conflict with that which requires trade-offs not everyone within a party, much less between parties, will agree on.

Even if your contention were presumed to be correct for sake of argument, it wouldn't be in their opponents' best interest to fall into the equivalent of finger pointing claiming 'You guys are bad. You're just BAD!!!' And even if we somehow concluded that Republicans were 'generally bad' in the discussion at hand, it would not necessarily follow that the movers, shakers & policy makers at the EPA were all good.

Richard.

Richard- With all due respect, I think you are trying to create a false equivalency. The two parties are not opposite sides of the same coin.

Here is the deal, much of the EPA rollbacks are geared toward energy development business, particularly fossil fuels. They have absolutely no vested interest in conservation of natural resources. Their only motive is profit. If the Trump admin could get away with it they would sell off national parks in search of another dollar.
