Looks like perhaps he dodged a bullet.

OCRACOKE, N.C.
A 50-year-old man was taken by helicopter to the hospital today after he came up from his first 100-foot dive too fast and was unconscious, according to a Coast Guard news release.
At 11:30 a.m. a crew member from the dive boat Lion’s Paw called the Coast Guard to report the man was unconscious. A 47-foot rescue boat crew from Hatteras Inlet and a 25-foot rescue boat crew from Ocracoke were launched to help the diver.
The rescue boats escorted the Lion’s Paw crew to Teach's Lair Marina, where Hatteras emergency medical services transferred the man from the boat to a Coast Guard rescue helicopter, which took him to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk.
The man, who was not identified by the Coast Guard, was conscious and alert when he arrived at the hospital.
