Thanks for the reports Turk9.
How is the diving on the east side compared to the west side?
You are getting some long BT's. You must be using HP120's or at least HP100's.
Do you find yourself getting close to DECO on the 2nd dive, 63' for 75 minutes, wow.
If the port is closed and someone from say VillaBlanca resort wants to go diving on the east side, will Aldora take them?

Hey Blue-
Didn't know if Turk would be back on.... I haven't done the southern part of the east side (dammit) - it's deeper, so I don't know conditions there. Hanaan and the Cannons in the northern part of the east side are shallow, often surge-y, untrafficked, and gorgeous. The sand suspended in the water scours out the swim-thrus and makes bands of stunning blues as you gaze away from the shore. The shallows support growth of those beautiful stands of elkhorn and staghorn corals. The seafans sway in the surge... Water's a little cooler than the west...

The big coral heads are often scoured around the bases, too, and look like enormous mushrooms.

Yes, long bottom times. They avoid deco by enjoying long surface intervals on the beach (when I have been with them) and controlling multi-level depths to max bottom time and avoid deco.

Yes, Aldora accommodates customers from other shops on a space-available basis. If someone from VillaBlanca contacts Memo or Julian at Aldora, they will be able to go to the east side unless the boats are all full.

Pelagicgal gave a very good description of the the northern sites, right on the money. The far south sites were deeper with less surge and had a nice current that made for far less finning than the northern sites. Reefs are long and not scoured out as much as the northern sites. As far as depth and deco, yes I did get close and had to pull up and away from the reef about three quarters of the way through the second dive. Wish I had requested Nitrox yesterday, being 10ft up from the reef is not as much fun as flying along just inches above, totally different perspective.

Ahhhhh.... I'm a nitrox diver much of the time, so despite good DM bottom time mgt. my close-encounters with deco are usually my own fault.

Is nice on the beach over there. And you're out from the areas usually visited by others. We had tortas from El Camaron Dorado, some of us spent time beachcombing (huh PropJoe? ) - others just enjoying the warm sun and serene scenes.

Last day!?! LAST DAY???!!!!??!! Turk! I am going to miss your dive reports! I've been there with you - even if vicariously and after the fact... ~~~~~~~~><)))'>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dive day #6 (the last) - 1st dive was Palancar Caves, 85ft, 63 minutes. Plenty of swim throughs, several turtle with one of them trying to sleep in a depression in one of the caves. That was pretty neat. He looked a little anoyed that we were interupting his siesta, but he did not abandon his bed. 2nd dive, Tormentos Reef, 72ft, 71 minutes. Had a great flight, current was swift but manageable. I just love flying 6 inches off the reef, makes it feel like your going 60 miles per hour. It has been a good trip, four days diving the west side and two days on the east side. All good dives. The only thing that could have made it any better would havewe had been on the other Aldora boat that went out this morning. A couple we dove with the last two days reported that after they came out of The Devil's Throat and were drifting above the reef, five Black Tips showed up and circled them for ten minutes. Maybe next time!
