I suppose one could make the argument of, "but you would be putting at risk those who have to go get your body out of the water"

My standard answer to that is that by the time this becomes an issue for me, I'll have paid enough taxes and insurance premiums into the search and rescue infrastructure to more`than cover that. Certainly a lot more than many other risk takers ever do, such as the crack addicted 23 year old whose two kids of unknown paternity are getting ADC checks off my nickel. Especially when averaged over a lifetime of more than 65 years, the average diver/mountaineer is a net donor in the game of people subsidizing each other's risky behaviors.
