A small number of manufacturers make everything, with all kinds of brand names. It would be in consumers best interest to know this. An informed consumer is a smart consumer. I've heard all kinds of stories about Edge and Hog regarding the reason behind lower list prices. I would imagine Deep6 is largely the same, with further elimination of the middlemen. The lack of transparency is dazzling.

If we squeeze out all the LDSs, we'll have nowhere to get gas. Gas supply specialists?

There is a method to the madness of deep six. Chris will let this out eventually but the fact is the majority of dive shops are extremely unnecessary and if they go under it isn't the end of the world. The ones that survive will be the ones like dive right in scuba. Northeast scuba supply. Cave adventurers etc that offer so much more than just gear sales.

So I have had some people asking me about where I purchased my petrel 2. I would love to give this info out but for one the seller is a friend of mine and does not offer this deal to the average person. He specifically asked me not to tell anyone how much I payed for the computer. I believe he meant locally because that's where his business is. Being that I told how much I paid here I can't tell who the seller is because of a possibility of him getting in trouble with the manufacturer. Whether that's the case or not I have to respect his wish and not disclose this information on who he is. I hope this doesn't upset anyone but I am going to have to refuse. I apologize in advance.

you don't get it. What I'm saying is that in Germany, Aqualung is not allowed to make a rule saying that it can't sell parts to the customers. I don't have the specific law in front of me, but it is part of your consumer protection laws in that country. Otherwise, they wouldn't sell you parts there either.... Germany is the exception to the rule, no where else in the world can you buy Apeks parts kits. I believe Holland and Denmark have the same laws that forbid a company from refusing to sell parts to consumers. They don't have to sell directly, but they can't restrict a distributor from selling parts to the consumers. It is truly against the law for them to restrict it.
I used to get the spare parts + service kits from scubaspare which is, I believe, based in Malta. Unfortunately they are no longer allowed to do to the public since 01st Dec 2014.

We got a couple of our Predators in a similar deal shortly after they were released several years ago. It's not all that uncommon for a smaller dealer to sell a big ticket item now and then at or near cost to get an initial order, or to move a few to maintain a minimum sales volume - but for those reasons it's a very limited number and a very limited opportunity you have to be lucky enough to stumble into. However, you generally don't want to post about it on an internet forum.

In some cases, you might be able to get a similar deal on big ticket items like regulators or computers as part of a package deal, where the shop can include non price controlled or discontinued items in the package to provide what amounts to a steep discount on the items the shop isn't allowed to advertise or sell below, or much below MSRP.

Like what? Aren't they just using lower prices to get a piece of the market? That's what Santi did, their suits used to be very cheap and once the brand was established they raised their prices. Hog raised their reg prices by quite a bit already, no?

Deep6 seems to plan on doing direct-to-consumer-selling only. It's not new, it's been done in other industries for years and I doubt that it's gonna change much... it's just another player and it has disadvantages for the company too.

There are a few twists to just being a Direct to consumer brand in my plans for Deep 6. I will work with other channels as well. Just not looking to work with the traditional dealer model. Deep 6 is not about being the cheapest products on the market.

hummm... I am actually pretty hated in the industry for my embracing transparency but... all good

You have heard stories eh? You can ask me, I am pretty familiar. Horses mouth and all that...

In places people dive you will be able to get gas. That includes where people go to learn

Dive shops and online shops, what other channels are there?

... for my embracing transparency but

In what way is D6 more transparent than other companies?

I've heard that D6 is gonna do something new but at this point I don't understand what's new here.

There are a bunch.

If you don't think I have been more transparent than most in the dive industry, read thru the last 12 years of my posts.

Ok, I will be sharing more and more of the Deep 6 plan as time goes on and we start selling.

I'll be glad to take a few regs and do a review for ya. Haha
