Has anyone used Flashtrax or Roadstor for their storage devices. The Roadstor I understand is a DVD player, MP3 player and burns CD's. Please let me know.

We are using a Roadstor for backing up our digital images. Just took it with us on a Blackbeards trip, worked out really well. Even burned a copy of the CD for my sister to take home with her. We didn't think a mpg movie copied to it because we couldn't find it on the CD with the tv that BB's had on board, but once she was home and put the CD in her computer - the mpg movie was there as well.

Just an FYI, I got the MindStor Wallet... yeah, you remember the old Wallet... JUST BEFORE they closed down... heheh..
anyway, I did find a person who maintains them, batterys, repairs etc... which is a life saver. Here's the link:

My batteries went dead and he was able to rush them out just before a trip. Wallet works, but would look for a better/newer replacement if I had the $$$... I load the wallet and still keep the sm cards with orginals until I run out of them.. for backups.

Not the best system, but works for now... the main point is the MindStor Wallet is still salvageable... which I didn't know and was ready to write off the wallet...
hope that helps..

Hi,

I recently read on a french forum about problem with the PD7X and its batteries
It seems to work with a minimum voltage of 4,6V
and the batteries provide 4,8V full charged
when the voltage is under 4,6, the HDD doesn't work
it seems to appear very quickly

what do you think about it ?
have you heard something like this already ?

thank you

ReyeR:
I use a Vosonic Xs DRIVE PRO VP300 with a 20 GB hard drive and have had no problem with it so far. The only gripes I have are that it doesn't have a copy verify function and the power button is badly designed - the unit can be turned accidently while in the carry case (solved with a little bit of blue tack). The latest Xs DRIVE is the VP3310. It looks like it has a longer battery life and a blue back-lit lcd panel.

This looks like a good product too: http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.422/it.A/id.549/.f. The Compact Drive PSD PD7X works with AA batteries and has a built in NiMh charger. It also says that after each transfer, the Compact Drive will scan the hard disk to verify that all data from the memory card is safely transferred to the Compact Drive.

The Nixvue Vizor that Fins mentions sounds like a good product too.

Yes I have come across several discussions in various forums. The problem seems to be with using the unit with a Microdrive, which has a larger current draw than, say, CF cards. So if you use high capacity NiMH batteries and don't use Microdrives it should be ok. They have also provided a firmware upgrade which allows you to set a threshold voltage above or below which will shut down the unit.

I have to say that having used the Xs Drive range (II and Pro) for 2 years now it has never given me any kind of problem (lost data, errors, hardware etc).

I just read about this one, looks interesting too

The Apacer CP 200

I own this unit and used it on my recent trip to Bonaire when I took 1400+ pic. I like it because:

Within minutes after a dive I have a permanent unaltered hardcopy of all my pics.
It will copy to regular CDs or mini-CDs
It comes with USB interface for most PCs
It will connect to TVs with RCA jacks
It will play DVDs when connected to a TV or computer
It has a remote control

It's short comings:

It's battery is totally unreliable
Keeping up and labeling CDs

Still I perfer it over carrying a laptop on trips. Laptops are a hassle as carry-on and who wants their laptop thrown around with regular luggage!

We've had the Roadstor since March and love it- it's been to Roatan twice now. We just got back from a three week trip and now that I got my husband his own c5050 set up, we took almost 3000 pictures! With hauling around housings and lenses and strobes the camera equiptment is starting to take over, so the roadstor is a nice compact alternative to a laptop, and its nice to be able to burn cds for other people you meet along the way. I would be this again in a heartbeat and for about $200-250 its a pretty good deal.

Check out the new Ipod photo http://www.apple.com/ipodphoto/. It has a 40GB or 60GB storage capacity as well as a load of other accessories, like the Belkin media reader so you can download directly from flash cards etc http://www.apple.com/ipodphoto/accessories.html . The high res, colour screen can be used to few single photos or thumbnails of ~20. You can connect to a TV/projector as well for slide shows.

Awesome!
