We stayed there in March 2012 and enjoyed the resort and diving very much. Lots of great muck/critter diving near the resort and take a day trip to Apo for really nice coral.

Dauin is very nice for macro / muck diving. Apo is great for hard coral, turtles etc. Siquijor is in range for wall dives.

Pura Vida is one of many options. You also have Mike's Dauin Beach Resort for a little more personalised service, El Dorado for more of the Swiss German concept and Liquid which aims more at flashpackers.

My advice is to choose somewhere with a menu you are happy with as you tend to get stuck in your own resort. At least Pura Vida is adjacent to some other places to wander for a meal.

Loved Pura Vida but I have a friends who raved about Mike's. Always good to have two good options!

Dauin area offers great muck/macro diving, it may not be for everybody so it depends if you wana see stuff like seahorses, frogfish, ghostpipefish, nudibranchs, unique octopi, flambouyant cuttlefish etc. In contrast, Apo island which is only 30 minutes away offers beautiful coral gardens with turtles, seasnakes, and schools of fish (for advanced divers). In addition to that you can go for a daytrip to Oslob to see the whalesharks, about 1.5 hours away. Make sure though you get all the information about sanctuary fees because they are all different depending on where you dive.

Can't go wrong with Pura Vida. We loved our rooms by the pool area. Food was great. The dive center Sea Explorers is very professional with experienced guides and nice boats.
