We're considering this trip...has anyone any recomendations re. the lens we'd need to best capture the sailfish attacking the baitballs?
The video footage looks pretty impressive.

I don't know that it's so much the lens as the port. As it appears that at least part of the time you're zoomed out quite a bit. Nice of them to stay near the surface so the light's good.

Only some of the better ports are full zoom-thru which I think is what you'd likely want.

Probably a 3-chip camera also. Unless you've got a RED One...that would be awesome.

It is really great footage though...of course Guy bringing his "cinematographer" probably helped..

One of the Blue Planet episodes has similar footage. First the sailfins, then the dolphins, then the sharks come in on a baitball. The birds get what's left.

Wide Angle Lens is what you want for video. You want as wide as a port as possible. You want to know how to use manual focus because with the action that happens if you use auto focus it will zip in and out of focus too much. You also want to do manual focus because of the action from deep to shallow. You have to practice a lot before going on this shoot and know your buttons without looking at them. Everything has to be from memory!!!

Go out and practice shooting the expressway.
