I'm afraid that unless you have part or full ownership in the dive shop, or an upper management position, such as store manager, that making a career as a dive instructor is not very likely. A young-single person can have a lot of fun for as much as a few years as a "dive bum", but eventually, when you want to support a family or maybe eat, you will need a more substantial job. Don't get me wrong, teaching is great fun. But it's better as a part time job.

Back to my first point though, if you are a go-getter and can use teaching scuba as a stepping stone into owning your own retail business, then you have a chance.
