Not at all, Jeff.
Thanks! :)

I get a kick out of how PETA will go after a Korean woman who created microwavable dog meat, but doesn't attack the shark finning industry.

I guess no PETA donors in Berkeley, California have a pet shark named Fido, huh?

Hey you got my vote.

Boogie711,

Please let's not bring PETA into this, I got go on ranting about those poor misguided souls for hours.

I hate shark finning so very, very much. Can't these people just take some Viagraa? What ISN'T an aphrodisiac in the Pacific Rim?

It isn't an aphrodisiac in the Pacific Rim, but viewed more as a health food / tonic AND--more importantly--an ostentatious symbol of wealth. That is why, for weddings, it is de rigueur to serve the dish to guests.

One effective method of discouraging this is to spread the fact that shark fins these days contains high levels of mercury and other heavy metals (and we know how much certain cultures are concerned with procreation and their progeny ).

How solid is that? I haven't heard that one myself, then again I didn't know shark fin soup was a "dietary supplement" either.

What causes the fins to have elevated metal counts? Is it natural (like in tunicates) or related in some way to pollution? If the fins have it, it's likely the entire animal is biomagnified with the stuff as well. I thought most finning ops were done well offshore away from pollution sources.

Count me in as sugned. Those pictures are just plain sad.
