A number of years ago I saw a documentary where the divers had these sticks that appeared to be spring loaded that they kept with them for protection. When a predator came too close they pushed a button and the stick bumped the predator with the impact of a 22 caliber. Does anyone out there know what this was ?

Why would anyone "need" any vintage equipment Devon ?

As this was also posted on the 'Underwater Hunter' forum - I can only guess that the OP is interested in some retro-style destruction of the marine environment?

No but he had hoped they might have seen or heard of them. Yes, I saw once once long ago, it is a non lethal mechanism, sort of like a spring loaded shark billy. Since you cannot swing your arm underwater, the spring mechanism amplifies the blow. As I said, it does not harm the shark I would seriously doubt. I hardly remember what it looked like, sort of like a miniature pogo stick.

Well Devon, Assume what ever you want. Who do you think would know best about a piece of equipment like that ? Certainly wouldnt be a tree hugger.

Not sure who would be best.... I'd opt for some kind of wacko survivalist nut with a mullet hair cut and a small arsenal in his basement.....

Sorry...was just humor, not an arguement. Must be a useful implement for when the gators interupt your banjo playing :)
