Ten weeks ago I strained the ligament in the thumb (skier's thum).....had it in a splint for five weeks and am now undergoing re-hab to get back full range of motion, grip, strength etc......still slightly swollen but feel confident I can return to diving.
I have sufficent strength in it to perform all normal funtions of diving.....putting on gear....getting in/out of boat and dragging someone out of water if required.
Guy in dive store spoke of increased risk of DCS and inability to out gas properly.....
Can not find specific info on DAN site........
Any thoughts..............Many thanks

Hello sngldver:

The thumb is not a usual place for DCS to appear. Swollen tissues do have different gas exchange characteristics and thus can be a problem.

I would not be overly worried about a thumb.
