Dear Jon

I went the route of the fancy electric high pressure espresso machine, but went back to the prosaic little italian two-part stove top model for the simple reason that it makes superior coffee whilst taking up less space in my kitchen.

Indeed I live in the land of cuckoo clocks, just on the border to Germany's Black Forest, but for the last 4 years I have been renting a 300-yr-old farmhouse in the Vosges as a weekend place. I spend a lot of time there, but I STILL can't speak French:D - the languages eludes me.

I solve the coffee problem by taking it with me from Switzerland. If you get lucky, you might find Chicco d'Oro (an Italian brand) somewhere. Try the Carrefour, they usually have a reasonable selection.

You and *she-who-must-be obeyed* should pop up one weekend, get good coffee (with a little armagnac added hehe) and tell me diving stories. Just 20 KM from Remiremont!

Gozu,

I might take you up on that.

The carrefour I have tried is the absolutely massive one in Ecully, that is designed to serve the west of Lyon, It is by far the largest hypermarché in Lyon. They have no Chico d'oro, or Lavazza (appologies for the spelling). I was somewhat spoiled during my PhD, walking past a specialist coffee shop twice a day.

She who must be obeyed is still in the UK working on her PhD, so whilst I have a reasonable salary, and she is still a pennyless student I think for the majority of the time it will be me visiting her simply due to cost (and the fact I have several thousand air miles to use up - after all if work is paying for your flight you might as well get the air miles yourself mightent you!)

What might be interesting is sorting out some neptune dives somewhere a)interesting, and b) easily accesible for most europeans here (not needing 12 hour flights as the caribbean does!).

I know the vast majority of UK sites, and it would be relatively cheap for most of us to meet somewhere like london and head down to somewhere like the english channel for a long W/end wouldn't it?

(I'm thinking of flights like easyjet and GO! where for literally £30 - 40 (50+ Euros) you can get london - major european city return)

Mebe when I have explored the med. a bit we could pop down there for a long w/end, but that would be more expensive in flights etc..

Dr. Jon

The European chapter of the Neptune Divers LIVES!

Easyjet is like getting a tube ticket...As soon as I get some experience under my belt, we will DIVE, getting together as many of the folk this side of the Atlantic as we can.

As it is, it would be no pleasure for you to dive with me, because I am still the absolute neophyte...but that WILL change :D by the end of this summer

The ideas for trips come tumbling through my brain...

UK
Red Sea
Malta
Turkey
Canaries

Ah, there are enough trips here for the next 5 years...and all within 5 hours flying distance.

Long weekend trips to the UK for certain when the weather gets nice and warm. Meeting once a year perhaps at a more exotic site (Red Sea:D)

The possibilities are endless... the mind reels...

Eurodivers, please give us some feedback on this! The conch horn sounds its summons!

I'll go to Turkey, I've been diving there before and absolutely LOVED it! The South Western and Southern Parts of the country have some of the best dive spots in the Meditteranean.

I've been Diving a long time and I still drink a LOT of coffee.
Without it I would be VERY VERY grouchy until I'd made at least one Dive to load up with N2.

So scientific answers anecdotal evidence whatever, I 'm still gonna drink Coffee before I dive else I'll be out of a job.

Bill P:
I saw this link you gave for this old thread and followed it. Very interesting. I would like to know if you ever gave your views on salt and cholesterol. If so can I see the link? If not please tell us.

Sure, since you asked. (But remember, you did ask.)

You hear all the time about how salt and cholesterol are bad for you. But if you didn't have any salt in your body right now, your nervous system and even cellular metabolism would fail, and you would die instantly. Same thing with cholesterol. If you didn't have any cholesterol in your body right now, your cell membranes would disrupt and you would die instantly!

I know that I certainly don't want to die instantly, so I always make sure to include plenty of salt and cholesterol in my diet. I had pork chops and fried eggs for supper tonight and I feel great!

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Bill
