Hi @stepfen
It will do nothing to help you dive solo if an operator requires the cert (SDI, PADI, SSI, IANTD...)
I forgot to address this. For now I plan to dive solo only in places where I am very familiar with the conditions etc - practically shore dives within driving distance from my home.
The other place I dive is Indonesia. My wife is Indonesian and we usually visit my in-laws once a year or so. Needless to say I try to spend as much time as possible underwater there, but solo in Indo is no go for me - except maybe in familiar house reefs.

Of course in the future, if/when I want to expand solo to new places, I will have to get the cert.
Thanks for bringing this aspect up anyway.

Hmm.

- If you were interested in solo and "don't see any reason going [100'] or any further at least for now" and your instructor sold you the extended range class, it seems like they mis-sold you, not over-sold you.
- How many were in your extended range class?
- Glad you learned stuff. Sorry if it wasn't the stuff you meant to learn.
