Hello all,

I purchased one of the 399.99 budget kits from divers supply back in 2004 and I have been using it since, and for the money it has served me very well, but it is showing its age and I am looking to upgrade. Here is a list of the stuff I am looking at.

If you all have any suggestions on different equipment or anything please feel free.

Sherwood NEW Avid CQR-3

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075GT7YKF/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?smid=AOHSR0T0JGZ7B&psc=1

Cressi Leonardo Dive Computer

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NGTJL6V/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?smid=AZ2T72SM9NOY8&psc=1

Cressi Octopus XS

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000THQLCU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A34V3O18ZYGJY&psc=1

Cressi AC2/XS2, complete regulator

And my wife is really interested in getting full face masks and comms.

She likes these

OCEAN REEF BUDDY COMMUNICATION COMBO

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BUEOPKU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A125HJY28CLVKW&psc=1

But I know nothing about full face diving, so obviously we would have to hit up the local shop for some education. Anyone ever use these? What are your thoughts and opinions?

Overall, None of this equipment is set in stone, and I doubt ill buy from amazon, but I used it for easy linking. If you have any suggestions please feel free.

Seems like you’ve done your homework...my suggestion is to buy these before members start to confuse you with their own equipment....btw, I use and like the Leonardi :D...scratch the communication combo.

if considering FFM, look at the Spectrum from OTS. Much much better FFM and can use just about any second stage.

I wouldn't personally consider much of any of the gear you listed an upgrade though. For $1200 you can do a lot better. Plenty of threads on here about some options you have to look at.

Those MK25 sets would be an infinitely better upgrade, though considerably more expensive than what you listed and with good resale.
You can get a BPW set from Vintage Double hose for $100 less than that Sherwood and be much better off.
The computer is pretty basic, but it is what it is if you want a console computer.

thumbs down for the Sherwood bc....did you read the reviews of the Sherwood bc's on scuba board....if not; you should.

If you want information regarding ffm and the OceanReef in particular, I can answer a few questions, as it's what I normally dive. I do not use the COMS units, or at least I don't have any experience using them. I have tried once but there were other factors that sort of ruined my diving that day so I didn't get a good test to base my opinions on. I'll need to try them again. Aside from that, though, I'm happy to answer whatever questions you have about them. My wife and I both dive them.

As for the rest of the gear, I agree with the sentiment regarding the HOG package. HOG makes good regs and I think most people would agree you can't really go wrong with them. Yes, I dive them personally and I have no complaints. But one of the nice things about them is that you can take a TDI class that teaches you how to service them and then you can service your own HOG regs. Many other manufactures (ScubaPro, Atomic, etc.) don't offer that. So something to consider other than just the initial buy in.

My Cressi is a watch computer?

The only reason the sherwood is in there is because I need a 3xl bc, and its the only one I have found.

not much of an upgrade there as most of the gear is pretty basic.

since you don't mind divers supply, maybe try their hog package.

Scuba Gear Tech Diver Package includes Computer

or maybe their reg package and a DGX bpw

Scuba Regulator Package of the Month with Computer

As for the Hog tech kit, I have looked at it, the local dive shop I use doesnt have the BC in stock, so I dont know if the xxl will fit me.
