Parrothead diver,

I agree with you 100 percent. I am glad, I am not the only one that noticed this questionable practice. Thank you for your support.

Which of their parks was the problem? I noticed this link for Potter's Park and it seems quite limiting if you are looking to scuba and don't need a camp site. http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/canyon/Park Policies/(6) Park Operating Policy - PC.pdf

North Park policy basically the same as far as scuba (http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/canyon/Park Policies/(6) Park Operating Policy - NP.pdf). Might be time to call your congressman and tell him where you think the government can save some money on a COE program that is not working for you.

I sure don't understand that. If you are going to dive or picnic you need a campsite, but not if you are there to fish? What if you are there to fish and have a picnic lunch?
What if you intend to fish, but once you got into the park you realized you packed your dive gear and not your fishing gear?
And what if you're fishing with a spear gun?

Potters Creek and Jacobs Creek are not worth diving. Congress and The Corp of Engineers are both bureaucracies, have made their decision, and are like speaking to a wall. The best ways to dive are to dive Mon. thru Thurs., get there real early Fri., contact a dive shop and sign up, or get a boat.

Years ago when Lake Belton flooded. there was only one usable ramp and it was in a park that was designed for campers so the gate workers were turning away boats. When enough boaters backed up the gate so nobody could use it, the sheriff's office got involved and the COE ended up opening up their "public" facilities to all. Sometimes you have to help the government see the error in their ways.

Somehow I doubt that there are enough divers willing to dedicate themselves to overcome decisions made by park management for their own convenience. Fishermen typically have greater numbers, friends in local government, and are willing to spend money to "gitter duuuunn". I have found that fishermen are a bit more dedicated to their recreation. To some it is a religion.

A rise at Canyon Lake would open ramps not normally used. In other words, it aint happening at Canyon Lake for a few that have little impact as day campers.
