If that's true (no offence), then that's amazing. I don't do much free diving these days, but I used to do a lot, and relatively few of the people I went with could hold their breath for a full 3 minutes. The idea that within a couple of days of training you could reach 5 minutes is just astounding to me.
I am sure that worlddiver is talking about a static breath hold. That is just lying on the surface of the water relaxing. It is quite common for an above average freediver to pull a 5 minute static in a class like DiveTech, PFI or FIT. Unfortunately, having a good static breath hold does not always mean they will have a good breath hold while actively swimming underwater.
