It allows you to disconnect the gauge from the hose. Sorta like how you connect your inflator hose up on your BC. I guess it would be a handy feature if you have a computer mounted in a console and want to interface it with your PC to upload your dive profile data, then you don't have to lug all your regs and hoses too.
 
The quick disconnect allows you to remove your computer for several reasons. It makes it easier to handle when downloading the data. Removing the computer allows you to protect it during storage. And if you're on a trip where you leave your gear in a supplied locker or whatever, you can take your computer with you for extra security. All in all it's just really handy!
 
Its also very handy while on trips. In a car or on a plane you can disconnect it and carry it with you to run dive simulations. It helps to pass the time and prepare for your upcoming dives.
