Aloha all,

I've noticed that there have been A LOT of Shearwater Petrels for sale recently. I'm curious to know why? For you sellers out there, are you not happy with it?

They're so happy with their Petrel's that they are upgrading to Petrel 2's.

I like it. I've been thinking of another shearwater to go with my predator. I'll take a petrel without the compass. I prefer an analog compass anyway. I'd like to see more people upgrade to the two. Makes the previous version likely to be available at a better price.

Notice the prices? They are for sale at a premium so the funds to "upgrade" are nearly met. The quest for "newer is better" because of "trinkets"....

I like to wear my compass atop my right hand.

I'm a wreck diver. I keep my compass with my snorkel... in a milk crate in my basement.

Wrapped up in your wetsuit, perhaps?

I am with the previous posters. Folks are upgrading to the Petrel 2 and the market for used Petrels is strong. Not for me, I think a used computer is worth about 1/2 of what it cost new, if I'm going to buy a Petrel for $50 less than I could buy a new one with warranty, I'll get the warranty. But, no sour grapes, the market will weaken eventually like it did with Predators and the original Shearwaters.

Actually, the market for used Predators is about collapsed. Most folks, like me, are just as happy with their old Predators, and you don't see that many used for sale any more.

I carried that eight-year old "like new" wetsuit all the way to Truk Lagoon and back the last two weeks. My eight-year old "like new" snorkel was indeed wrapped in it. (It also made a nice pillow for 7 hours in the Guam airport.)
