I don't like the idea of having a clip on my 7' house it seems that it might be a entanglement risk. I do wrap my hose in a coil and place it around hook it between the first stage and the manifold.

AquaHump:
Is the clip on the 7' hose Hogarthian?

I am no expert, but the clip is there for stowing the primary second stage when you are not using it... Failure or going to a stage bottle.

The second stage on the long hose is your primary. This is the one you breath
from throughout the dive and donate in an emergency. The hose goes down the
side of the right tank behind the wing to waist level, then it turns forward,
passes between your body and the bottom of the light canister, comes diagonally
up across your chest, over your left shoulder, around the back of your neck and
the reg goes into your mouth. A clip on the hose next to the regulator allows
you to 'park' it on the right shoulder D-ring when not in use.

Yes.

Not having it makes the long hose an entanglement hazard when it is not in use.

I have looked at the idea and turned it around in my head. I dont like it I will keep the snap lip of my 7 foot hose. when not in use it parks nicely above my other 2nd stage. If I had a problem with my deco reg or some other problem happened that I would want my 7 foot hose back in my mouth I would not want to fumble with a clip to get it back. I will leave well enough alone.

I quite regularly breathe my primary while it is still clipped off to my shoulder ring, mainly while wet testing it during the predive surface check, but more than once I have done it mid dive just to see if I can. Maybe my D ring is located higher than yours, I don't know. Plus, having it clipped off means that I always know exactly where it is when I or another diver is not breathing it.

The hose goes down the side of the right tank behind the wing to waist level,

I have always routed it between the wing and my body. The reason I do this is because that when I have routed it between tank and wing, it always seems to require a lot of hassle to free it from between when donating, particularily early in the dive when the tank/tanks is/are full. Comments?
