I strongly recommend all NYC divers to look up the Sea Gypsies and attend at least one of their monthly happy hours.

Shore diving Coney Island is actually super illegal, but there is one place in Brooklyn where the diving is always good.

thanks oya for the links! the club sounds pretty cool and ill definitely look into it. Ive been thinking about the dive team at the aquarium as well. Love the idea of interacting with the kids.

I've posted a potential NYC meet and greet in the intro forum.....soon to be!

NYC, LI, NJ ALL sucks regarding legalities. and PARKING-- especially on L.I., where you don't have a "TOWN" permit. You can legally dive at Rockaway Point, but, of course you must deal with NYC traffic and same after the dive. And the SAY it's "cold".

I am currently taking Ed Hayes' Core class out in Connecticut which has been an awesome and eye-opening experience. Next step, AOW with Ed then GUE fundies with the Bob Sherwood. Thanks for tuning in and looking forward to our discussions!

Welcome! Both Ed and Bob are great instructors and excellent divers. I don't think I met someone that could talk through their regulator until I met Ed :)

Hi Brian! I literally made an account minutes ago to start contributing. I also live in Brooklyn. I'm new to diving and I've never had the chance to dive locally. Have you done any diving close to NYC? I've found myself looking at dive clubs but it's still a rather cumbersome hobby for a city dweller with limited space and budget.

Hey Katie, welcome to SB from another new contributor. I have not done any local diving around NYC just yet...but I do have a drysuit coming in a week so ill be able to see whats around once it finally arrives. (I get cold easily and not really a fan of a 7mm wetsuit) The water around here isnt what I would consider tropical so I thought a drysuit would be the best bet for local diving. Oya posted a link above for a local diving club that i might check out. Could be a good place to start!
