the farther south you go the farther north you end up (NY), until you get to miami.

and the further north you go the further south you actually go . . .
That above is not just something people say, it is for real.
Based on my observations (and my feelings) typically people that like one Florida, strongly despise the other one.

Yup.

There are so many different Florida's.

Heck, going from south florida to Orlando is so different. And going east to west across the state near orlando gives you the space coast, theme park hell and ends in Tampa...

Lived in FL all my life.

No way I would ever voluntarily choose to live on or near a FL coastline.

Or the villages.....

I’d recommend the Space Coast, near Cocoa Beach, close to international airport MCO & Jupiter is only a few hours drive away.

Back in January, after 20 years of planning n plotting I bought a house in a very quiet area almost in the center of Lake City.
You ask why Lake City? Because Lake City is the center of Florida cave diving. You can't drive 10 miles out of town in any direction without passing at least 3 diveable caves. Within a 50mile radius there are probably a hundred divable caves, and believe it or not Lake City offers electricity, garbage pickup, restaurants, bars, a library, 3 different gun stores, n a shooting range. The movie theater has 8 cinemas offering senior citizen discounts, Publix has 3 persons making fresh sushi which is good, unfortunatly the taste of Publix's fresh veggies and fruit leaves room for improvement. The couple of state liquor stores have a good assortment of cheap and bar brand booze, but if your searching for a specific cask strength Isla single malt whisky, or a Pappy van Winkle bourbon you're not going to find it in a liquor store near Lake City.
City water has a touch too much chlorine in it but is a nice soft water, water from wells is pretty good but is harder water.
As far as shopping goes, Lake City is not 5th Ave Manhattan but you can get almost everything there.
People are open and friendly, but I haven't gotten around to talking politics with the locals, I'm sure that some of them wouldn't have voted for Adolf Hitler because he was a National Socialist, others might have voted for Gus Hall/Angela Davis years ago, but almost all of them will stop and offer to help when your car is broken down alongside the road.

The airport issue is extremely important. Many places in Florida claim to have "international" ones but not sure exactly how they can use the label.

Other than that "few hours drive" are nothing to some and everything to others.
I wanted my routine to include afterwork dives if seas were good.
When ocean levels rise my place will be gone, maybe sooner if a hurricane comes in at a certain angle, but until then....

I get to do things the way I like, today is a perfect example. Work early in the day and play in the afternoon. As soon as my husband finishes his dive, it will be my turn.
This is the Florida I like

I drink way more Islay whisky than I ought to and I order about half the stuff I drink online since I can beat my local liquor store prices even after figuring in shipping costs by quite a wide margin if I order in bulk. That should solve the most important of your listed issues. If you find yourself upset about any of the other issues just pour yourself another dram and repeat until you can't remember what you were upset about. :)

Until I read this thread I thought I wanted to live in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. I do love vacationing there and often thought it would be a nice place to live as I'm now retired. Easy shore diving, not far from decent boat diving, a stones throw from the Keys. Not far from MIA.
