Charlie 99 is correct about the "good" vs. "bad" ones... the gap is the killer and if they aren't tight, they can be worse than worthless.

I have a blue pair that live in my BC pocket, plus I had several other colors that I "gifted" to friends. I keep an orange pair in my Ski Racing backpack for emergencies. I try to carry one or two pair with my gear when I go diving in Monterey in case a "friend" doesn't have any (hence the gifting).

Yeah they rust, but at $2.00 a pop, I can throw them away when they get too nasty. So far I have used the Blue ones for a few years. I clean 'em and lube 'em occasionally.

I like the idea of replacing the rivot with something in Stainless. I will have to cogitate on that. . . . .
