I live in the west side of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. I have taken a couple introductory dives in Hawaii.

I want to get my OW certification and would prefer a place close by. But after reading the board here and other places, I see that it's the instructor that is important.

Could anyone tell me if they live in the area or got certified in the area and want to recommend a PADI instructor/school that is good?

Thanks!

I would recommend Reef Seekers in Beverly Hills, but that may not be convenient for you.

Sport Chalet seems like the commercial grease pole, but that is a bad rap.

I don't recommend that you take any classes beyond Open Water, BUT they do a really fine job with your beginner certification. They include a lot of stuff in the class and usually run a 119.00 special during the colder months of the year.

Ask to meet the potential instructor for the date of the class you want to take.
