Why can't I e-mail a thread?

I was hoping to e-mail a thread to myself and a friend so I could find it later.. the system said I didn't have the appropriate permissions to do so, but the "Thread Tools" menu had the option.

I don't quite understand why e-mailing a thread is a bad thing.

It might be growing pains associated with the upgrade. Just right click on the thread link and "copy shortcut" or "copy link location" then paste it into an email. It's a couple extra steps, but it works.
