So ive been thinking about a new dive computer and think ive ended up at the uwatec.. I know there are a lot of dive shop owners on here and people in the industry-- so im hoping someone here might have an answer for me.... Im wondering if uwatec is planning on a new computer soon.. Replacing the sol? OLED ? Or is the current line up going to remain for a while? I know the sol is about 5 years old -- so a refresh would be in line.. The luna is working on 2 years.. So thought there might be something new in the pipe... Any help would be great... I liked the look of the atomic but i want to be AI and wireless.. Plus their wrist setup is still in the design phase... So could be 6 months to a year..

You will have to wait till DEMA whether or not Uwatec/Scubapro will release a new computer. But I agree, the first company to release an OLED, AI, and user replaceable batteries will rule the market for a while.

I wonder if atomic will have a wrist version of the cobalt by then.. Those OLED screens look toooo nice not to wait for them... I think ill just use my vytec for a bit and see what shows up in November.. Its too bad that LV doesnt make the x1 with a AI... Would scoop one of those up right now..

Hoopa and cbric, I think you're right on target. I've been evaluating computers for weeks now and everytime I think I know what I want to buy, some other colorful, flashy thing catches my eye. But the Cobalt thread is so long with so may early adopter issues, I think I'll stay away from the Cobalt for a while, especially at $1200.

The Luna is looking real good to me at this point. Plus I like that it is legible using old eyes. The smaller watch size computers just don't work for me. If the Luna was OLED but cost $400 more, would you buy one?

Other than OLED, what functions would you like SOL or Luna to do? (these questions are part of my education and evaluation process so thoughtful experienced replies are appreciated.)

one word : Trimix…

I've bought my luna in the beginning of 2010, a promised was made by uwatec to release a trimix update… Since i was passing my ** cmas instr. I was not in a rush and told me "well its okay, the Tx is late but i can wait" one year later, the update is still "vaporware". Furthermore I use to dive in lake, not really cristal clear water and I touched Oled display… And the only thing I can say is *WOW* I can read my comp, no button to press, its bright clear… I had the luck to dive with a Uemis SDA (made by a former employee of Uwatec), and an OSTC MKII… mk2 order, Luna is sold… ;-)

I woudlnt think a oled would add $400.. But even if it did-- yes id pay for it.. For me the luna has just about everything i would want.. Id add the heart monitor-- cause i like the idea that the computer takes into the calculations my work load and automatically adapts if im working hard.. Though i emailed scuba pro and asked how much for the upgrade and of course-- got no reply(god i hate those big corps that just dont care).. I have started looking at the uemis-- they look pretty nice... I really like the liquidvisioin x1-- but no wireless AI.. Time will tell what to get... But for now im just going to wait and see what the new year brings... What i know for sure i want.. OLED/Wireless AI/Full screen size/replaceable batteries/firmware upgradeable... Though there are some people that have had problems with the cobalt- everyone i have talked to that has one--- LOVES IT.. IDK-- time will show me the way..

A diver at Turtle Reef in Grand Cayman had on Cobalt. It looked really cool and easy to operate. Some of the letters were a little small and I'm not sure how that'd work out. Seems they are having their own firmware, logbook software, issues.

I've got a pair of COBALTS and you're absolutely right, they're both WAY cool and easy to operate, I baptized them both today at the LDS pool, they will be going for their first 'blue water swims' ( Sun Dancer/ Belize) 3 weeks from today, (they survived with no issues to the bottom of a 13' pool!) The OLED displays are definitely the way to go, it's insane how much easier they are to read than non-OLED computers, gotta warn ya in advance though, don't get too close to a real live COBALT, you will SOOOOO want one right now!

For me, I like the fact that you can customize the screens of the SOL and Luna, but the biggest seller for me is the large font size. Anybody that says their eyes get better when they get older is full of it. I have not purchased a Luna or SOL, because I am willing to wait for ScubaPro to come out with an OLED wrist unit.

Scubapro has been promising the trimix upgrade for several years, I would not hold my breath on Scubapro.

New rumor: Scubapro Uwatec to acquire screen technology from Uemis Ag (bankrupt.)

(more of a dream than a rumor. :D You heard hit here first. Just emailed this suggestion to Scubapro/Uwatec)
