+1 for jammers. Thin, lite, won't bunch up under wetsuit.

DM told me long ago there was no place for modesty on a dive boat. But a little courtesy goes a long way with your fellow divers.

what to wear under a wetsuit seems to be a perrenial favorite thread at scubaboard with all the predictable responses, especially the one about speedos. but everyone has their favorites and their hangups.

Many people wear something under a wetsuit our of a sense of modesty, it seems. Lots of surfers I have met seem not to have the problem going without. Divers seem to be the opposite. Maybe it is a matter of age. But, if you change in public in some jurisdictions even under a towel without any undergarment, it is considered "indecent exposure" which will get you not only a ticket, but may end up getting you signed in as a registered sex offender.

I wear Speedo briefs under my wetsuit so that when I am on the boat and taking off my wetsuit neither I nor someone else on the boat becomes embare-assed.

chaffing that's why

Ever walk up a flight of stairs with nothing but skin against custom fitted wetsuit? You don't want to do it.

....in case you're in an accident and are sent to the hospital.

I don't think I have met any local surfers who wear anything under their 7mm wetsuits. We all went commando. When using my 4/3 for windsurfing, kiteboarding, and wakeboarding I have never worn anything under. Although if you want to look cool and not have comments like "Twigs and berries" you need to wear a pair of board shorts OVER the wetsuit.

For diving when I first started in a 7mm wetsuit I wore nothing under (Then quickly changed to a drysuit). For warm water diving I am typically found wearing boardshorts and go commando under my shorts. I stuff the shorts into my 4/3 mm wetsuit if boat diving. If shore diving and I had a car available I would probably go commando in my wetsuit.

The trick is knowing how to roll the top edge of the towel down to make sure it isn't going to fly off. If the towel did fly off, then I would just continue on as if nothing happened. I have nothing to be ashamed of, and we all have naked bodies underneath.

I wear fleece pants for a base layer in my drysuit and always change out of my street clothes into them under a towel. Two layers is enough in the groin area, and the cath offers all the support I need

Why is it our culture is so ashamed of something that is so natural. Maybe it is my Finnish up bringing, but I was taught there is nothing shameful about a persons body, no matter the shape or form. Wear what you want or nothing at all, personally I sure don't care. If someone gets naked in front of me I don't say a word.

The EMT's cut my partners beautiful French lingerie off, when she got hit by a car riding her bike. Anyhow at the hospital they put you in a gown with no back. It is a little breezy moving down the hallways.

In the old days we wore nothing under our wetsuits. Sometimes pantyhose to make it easier to get the bottoms on.

What changed this for me was when women started diving, there was a group of us at a local dive site, all men, changing clothes. A local instructor was bringing a class of young ladies over the dune and walked into a group of naked men.

Shrieks all around.......

Although individuals may be comfortable with their bodies, others may not be......and in the US we have many stupid laws regarding public nudity.

That's nothing that a bottle of hair conditioner won't solve.

I wear a suit now however I didn't always. It was during my open water when I was commando that my instructor told us to get out of the wetsuit to tread water for 5 minutes. Let's just say I had to do that skill another time. :)
